The Challenge

  • EU asked Belgian state to split its Railway Company
  • 3 independent entities were created: Infrabel, NMBS/SNCB, and B-Holding
  • However, IT service stayed common to 3 entities, with a discriminatory access to information for NMBS-SNCB
  • Client wanted to resolve this situation with 21 Information-proof propositions and an audit upfront

Avertim's approach

  • Identified that business objectives were missing in proposed solution
  • As all information exchange exceptions generate major costs, Avertim proposed Phased Out Approach with applications & systems migration performed during maintenance
  • For remaining exceptions, Avertim advised an Audit-Compliant Approach:
    • Clear definition of business objectives
    • Phasing out (transfer of Program activities towards RUN activities)
    • Split information systems and processes in order to be and stay compliant

Impact and added Value

  • Estimated cost savings of 1 mio€ over 2 years
  • Initiation of a security program compliant with the ISO2700x standard
